A widespread wave of rain and snow has swept across the northern and central regions of China since December 10th, with snow falling heavily in North China and the Huanghuai region. According to the Central Meteorological Observatory, the large-scale precipitation is expected to subside by December 12th, with only scattered snowfall remaining in some areas.
However, a new and even stronger round of rain and snow is anticipated to begin seamlessly on December 13th, impacting a wider range of areas. The areas expected to receive significant snowfall coincide with those affected by the current round, including Hebei, Shanxi, Liaoning, Henan, and Shaanxi. These provinces are advised to remain vigilant and continue strengthening preventative measures.
In addition to snowfall, the northern region is also facing significant cooling. The Central Meteorological Observatory issued a blue cold wave warning on December 11th, predicting a temperature drop of 6-8°C across Jianghuai, southeastern Jianghan, most of Jiangnan, eastern Guizhou, and northern South China. In southern Hunan, eastern Guizhou, and northeastern Guangxi, temperatures are expected to drop by 10-12°C, with some areas experiencing drops exceeding 12°C. On the morning of December 12th, the lowest temperature of 0°C will be observed across an area stretching from central Hubei to northern Jiangsu and Anhui.
The Traffic Management Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security urges the public to be aware of the impending cold wave, rain, and snow. They recommend prioritizing public transportation when possible and advise drivers to plan their travel carefully considering weather conditions, travel time, route, and driving safety. Drivers should also remember to “slow down, control speed, maintain distance, and use headlights” to ensure safe travel.
