A powerful 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck Jishishan County, Gansu Province, at 11:59 p.m. on December 18th, sending shockwaves and triggering an immediate response. The tremor, originating at a depth of 10 kilometers and located at 35.70 degrees north latitude and 102.79 degrees east longitude, has caused casualties and damage in its wake.
The Gansu Fire Brigade swiftly activated a level-one response, mobilizing 580 firefighters and rescuers from nine detachments across the province. Two heavy-duty and seven light-duty professional earthquake search and rescue teams, equipped with 88 fire trucks, 12 search and rescue dogs, and over 10,000 pieces of rescue equipment, are rushing towards the epicenter.
Preliminary reports indicate damage in Jishishan County’s outskirts, with single-story houses collapsing. In Dahujia Town, three villages have suffered partial house collapses and trapped residents. Rescue forces are prioritizing personnel search and rescue operations, racing against time to locate and assist those in need.
