A somber pall has fallen over Jixi city in Northeast China’s Heilongjiang province after a coal mine accident on Wednesday afternoon claimed the lives of 12 miners and injured 13 others.

The tragedy unfolded at the Kunyuan Coal Mine in Jixi’s Hengshan district when an inclined shaft car – a vehicle used for transporting miners and materials within the mine – lost control and plunged down the shaft at approximately 3:50 pm.

Emergency responders swiftly reached the scene and transported all injured individuals to hospital for treatment. Local authorities assured the public that the aftermath of the accident is being handled effectively and with care.

An investigation team was immediately formed to delve into the cause of the accident, which remains under investigation. This devastating incident once again underscores the inherent dangers faced by miners and the crucial need for prioritizing safety measures and protocols within the industry.
