Moviegoers flocked to theaters during China’s Spring Festival holiday, pushing box office revenue past 7 billion yuan ($985 million), statistics revealed Friday. This lucrative eight-day period, ending Saturday, saw 142 million tickets sold, according to Maoyan, a film data platform.
Chinese films dominated the scene, with the comedy “YOLO” leading the pack. This story of a thirty-something woman finding her path with the help of a boxing coach has earned over 2.42 billion yuan, taking 34% of the total box office share. Following closely behind are “Pegasus 2” (comedy-drama) and “Boonie Bears: Time Twist” (animated), with earnings of 2.12 billion yuan and 1.24 billion yuan respectively.
