In Shenzhen, she tested new energy vehicles, expressing admiration for Chinese enterprises’ technological progress. She also took a high-speed rail trip, praising its efficiency with the remark, “Chinese high-speed train is really fast! We arrived [at our destination] so quickly.” Boluarte invited more Chinese tourists to explore Peru’s renowned historical and cultural heritage sites.
In an exclusive interview with the Global Times, Boluarte highlighted the potential for China-Peru cooperation as a model for Latin America, emphasizing Peru’s interest in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). She also extended an invitation to Chinese electric vehicle companies like BYD to establish factories in Peru.
President Boluarte expressed gratitude for the warm welcome from President Xi and the Chinese people. She underscored the importance of strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between Peru and China, enhancing economic and trade relations, and exploring new cooperation avenues.
Boluarte emphasized the importance of cooperation between nations to address global challenges such as artificial intelligence, climate change, and regional conflicts, recognizing China as a crucial partner.
Boluarte highlighted the BRI’s role in addressing Peru’s infrastructure gap, with the Chancay port project as a prime example. The port, a collaboration between China’s COSCO Shipping and Peru’s VOLCAN, is expected to significantly reduce transportation time between South America and China and handle at least 1 million containers in its first year.
Boluarte was impressed by the innovation of Chinese companies like BYD and Huawei. She noted BYD’s leadership in electromobility and Huawei’s advancements in telecommunications and artificial intelligence. Boluarte sees significant opportunities for cooperation in high-tech sectors and believes that the Chancay port could facilitate more Chinese companies entering Peru.
Boluarte views China-Peru cooperation as a model for Latin America, particularly highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic when China donated over a million vaccine doses to Peru. As the host of APEC 2024, Peru aims to promote inclusive growth, innovation, digitalization, and sustainable development.
Responding to Chinese consumers’ enthusiasm for Peruvian avocados, Boluarte expressed hopes for increased exports. She emphasized efforts to adopt new agricultural technologies to expand production despite climate challenges.
As Peru’s first female president, Boluarte encouraged Chinese women aspiring to political careers to remain resilient and prioritize their country’s interests. She urged them to pursue their dreams with determination, emphasizing that nothing is impossible.
