Tech Titans Showcase AI Innovations at ChinaJoy Expo

Shenzhen, China — Leading tech companies, including Tencent, Microsoft, and Amazon, are showcasing cutting-edge AI tools aimed at revolutionizing video game development at ChinaJoy, China’s premier digital entertainment expo in Shanghai.

Tencent, the world’s largest video gaming company by revenue, is introducing a comprehensive suite of AI services designed to support the “full life cycle” of game development. Chen Liang, General Manager of Tencent Cloud Internet Industry, emphasized the transformative potential of generative AI, noting its ability to expedite content generation in games. He highlighted Tencent’s ongoing collaboration with Kuro Games on the hit mobile game Wuthering Waves as a prime example of AI’s capabilities.

Microsoft is also making waves at the expo, showcasing its Azure OpenAI platform, which supports Chinese gaming firms like Perfect World in creating non-player characters and digital humans. Johnny Tian, Vice-President of Microsoft Greater China Region, emphasized the company’s commitment to aiding Chinese developers in expanding internationally through robust AI systems.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is leveraging its Amazon Bedrock service to enhance workflow efficiency for gaming studios. Zhang Xiaofeng, AWS’s Gaming Principal Architect, likened the impact of generative AI to the industrial revolution, underscoring its potential to transform the gaming industry.

The excitement around AI at ChinaJoy reflects a broader optimism for the technology’s future in China, the world’s second-largest economy. Despite a slow start in the first half of 2024, with total sales rising just 2.1% year-on-year, the gaming industry remains bullish on AI’s potential to drive future growth and innovation.
