Trains Suspended in Shenzhen Due to Typhoon Gaemi Threat

Shenzhen railway’s operator has announced the suspension of nearly 260 trains on the Shenzhen-Hangzhou High-speed Railway today as Typhoon Gaemi approaches the southeastern coast of China. The typhoon, recently upgraded to a super typhoon, is expected to make landfall in Fujian Province today after impacting Taiwan.

The suspension affects trains traveling to Meizhou, Shantou, Xiamen, and Wenzhou, with some services terminating early at Chaoshan Station. “Passengers can take trains to Chaoshan Station, but services will not extend further to stations such as Shantou, Meizhou West, and Xiamen North,” stated Liu Zhenwen from the passenger transportation department of Shenzhen Railway.

Gaemi, the third typhoon of the year and the first super typhoon of the season, was classified as a super typhoon at 8 a.m. yesterday. As of that morning, Gaemi was approximately 225 kilometers southeast of Taiwan, moving at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour. The typhoon’s trajectory includes a potential landfall in Fujian Province today.

In response to the typhoon’s approach, the railway operator has indicated that train schedules will be adjusted based on Gaemi’s trajectory, with services resuming as soon as conditions permit. Emergency plans have been implemented at Shanwei and Chaoshan stations to mitigate the impact of the typhoon.
