The Meizhou-Longchuan section of the Longyan-Longchuan High-speed Railway is set to open on Saturday, reducing travel time between Shenzhen and Meizhou in northeastern Guangdong Province to just 1.5 hours, according to Shenzhen North Station. This 94-kilometer section is part of the larger 290-kilometer Longyan-Longchuan High-speed Railway, linking Longyan in Fujian Province with Heyuan in Guangdong.
With three stations in Meizhou and one in Heyuan, this new section will connect with both the Meizhou-Shantou and Ganzhou-Shenzhen High-speed Railways. Operating at speeds up to 350 kilometers per hour, it marks the first rail section independently funded and built by Guangdong Province.
The railway will play a crucial role in integrating eastern Guangdong into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, enhancing connectivity and regional development.
Known as the “Hakka Capital of the World,” Meizhou is a historic hub for the Hakka people, boasting a rich cultural heritage. The completion of this section represents one of three parts of the Longyan-Longchuan Railway, with the Longyan-Wuping section already in operation since December 2023, and the Wuping-Meizhou section still under construction.
