The School of Public Policy at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) was inaugurated on September 13, marking the university’s seventh school. During the ceremony, renowned scholar Zheng Yongnian was appointed as the school’s dean.

Xu Yangsheng, president of CUHK-Shenzhen, emphasized the school’s role as a bridge between various sectors, including Hong Kong and the mainland, industry and policy, and China and the world. He hopes the school will break conventional boundaries and contribute to the economic development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and beyond.

James J. Heckman, Nobel laureate in Economics, expressed optimism about the school’s potential due to Shenzhen’s rapid technological development. He anticipates the school’s focus on emerging public policy issues in China will benefit both Chinese and global societies.

Zheng outlined three key missions for the school: building a knowledge system based on China’s modernization path, cultivating talent with a global outlook, and nurturing global governance professionals. The school currently offers two master’s programs with 95 students and plans to expand its master’s and doctoral offerings in the future.
