Shenzhen experienced a remarkable surge in tourism during this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, with an influx of 3.32 million tourists, resulting in a total of 1.812 billion yuan (US$256 million) in tourism revenue. This marked a 6.5% increase in tourist numbers compared to the same period in 2023. The city’s 23 major scenic spots attracted 746,500 visitors, contributing 40.06 million yuan in revenue.
Leading travel platforms spotlighted Shenzhen’s growing popularity as a holiday destination. Travel site ly.com ranked Shenzhen fourth in national travel demand during the holiday, while Fliggy placed it among the top 10 most popular domestic travel spots due to its diverse local attractions. Meanwhile, Ctrip ranked Shenzhen seventh among the top holiday destinations, and Tuniu noted Shenzhen’s significant contribution to outbound travel, ranking it sixth in volume, thanks to its large population and economic dynamism.
Visitor satisfaction was notably high, with an overall experience rating of 8.43 out of 10—slightly better than the summer holiday score of 8.38.
Among the visitors were nearly 700 international tourists who arrived aboard the luxury cruise ship China Merchants Eden as part of the “Exploring China” cruise route designed for European and American travelers. These international guests enjoyed an exciting itinerary, including a sea tour of the bay, visits to Shenzhen’s tech hub DJI, and cultural stops at the Shenzhen Museum, Dapeng Fortress, and Lianhua Hill Park. They also immersed themselves in local culinary experiences with dishes like mushroom hot pot and a variety of Guangdong-style dim sum.
