After about 75 years in business, the Oriental Trading Company Hong Kong Limited, a long-standing toy giant, is shutting down, much to the sadness of Hong Kong residents who fondly remember the company for shaping their childhoods.
The closure was announced through a social media post by reseller Tai Fook Hong, revealing that the toy giant’s inventory was being stored at a warehouse in Tuen Mun and offered for sale to the highest bidders.
“Original boxes [of toys] up for wholesale clearance. A great sale! A giant toy warehouse in Tuen Mun now has more than 100,000 products that include over 400 types of toys – all brand new,” the post said.
Lau, a Tai Fook Hong employee, confirmed that the toys in the warehouse came from Oriental Trading Company, adding that the demand had driven up prices as other bidders competed for the products. He did not reveal how many toys Tai Fook Hong had managed to purchase from the warehouse.
