Kuaishou, the operator of a popular Chinese video-sharing app, announced on Saturday that it has cracked down on accounts spreading harmful misinformation and inciting tensions between China and Japan. This follows the fatal stabbing of a 10-year-old Japanese student in Shenzhen earlier in the week.

The company said it had identified and taken action against over 90 accounts by either shutting them down or restricting their posting and commenting abilities. Kuaishou is also encouraging users to report suspected rule violations in an effort to curb the spread of anti-Japan sentiment on its platform.

This crackdown mirrors actions taken by other internet companies after a similar knife attack targeting a Japanese school bus in Suzhou in June. That incident left a Japanese woman and her child injured and resulted in the death of a Chinese bus attendant who attempted to intervene.
