Shenzhen is set to host approximately 25 sports competitions in the next two months, bringing the city’s annual tally to around 200 events. The lineup includes prominent events like the China Cup International Regatta (CCIR), the Shenzhen Marathon, and the World Match Racing Tour (WMRT) Shenzhen Bao’an Grand Final.
The CCIR kicked off Thursday at Daya Bay in Dapeng New Area and will run until Monday. Since its inception in 2007, the CCIR has become a significant international sailing event and received the “Special Award for Promoting Sailing” from the World Sailing Federation. This year’s event includes an ocean sports festival blending competition, cultural activities, and environmental initiatives, aiming to ignite public enthusiasm for sailing.
The World Match Racing Tour Shenzhen Bao’an Grand Final will follow in December, featuring 16 elite sailing teams, including Olympic and America’s Cup champions, competing for the annual title in Qianhai Bay.
Shenzhen’s non-water sports events are equally exciting, with the Shenzhen Marathon and Nanshan Half Marathon marking their 10th anniversaries. The Shenzhen Marathon will draw 20,000 runners on Dec. 1, including 725 runners celebrating their birthdays on race day. The event aims to achieve World Athletics Platinum Label status, reflecting its growing international appeal. The Nanshan Half Marathon will follow on Dec. 15, taking runners through scenic areas like Shenzhen High-Tech Park and Shenzhen Bay.
Other events this season include Shenzhen’s home matches in the China Super League, the China Masters Badminton, the FIBA 3X3 World Tour, and the China Women’s Ice Hockey League, showcasing Shenzhen’s role as a vibrant sports hub.
