A delegation of enterprises from the United Kingdom, organized by Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), visited Wuxi, Jiangsu province. Du Xiaogang, Party secretary of Wuxi, welcomed the delegation, including Sir Sherard Louis Cowper-Coles, chairman of the China–Britain Business Council (CBBC).
Du Xiaogang expressed gratitude to the CBBC and HSBC for their continued support and provided an overview of Wuxi’s economic and social progress. Highlighting the strong cooperation between Wuxi, CBBC, and HSBC, Du emphasized the importance of the visit as an opportunity to establish mechanisms for regular communication and to better serve enterprises visiting Wuxi. He also suggested exploring more informal talks and project matchmaking meetings to enhance communication channels and cooperation opportunities.
Sir Sherard Louis Cowper-Coles noted that the CBBC has been committed to fostering UK-China relations and that this visit marks the first time many UK enterprises are seeking investment and cooperation opportunities in China. He expressed optimism about UK enterprises reaching cooperation agreements with Wuxi and pledged to encourage more British-funded enterprises to establish a presence in the city.
During their visit, the UK delegation engaged with local pharmaceutical companies, including AstraZeneca, as well as venture capital firms and law firms. They learned about the development of British-funded enterprises in Wuxi and explored the Wuxi International Life Science Innovation Campus (I•Campus), fostering a deeper understanding of the city’s business environment and investment potential.
