The University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital (HKU-SZH) launched its 2024 medical experience camp for Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao teenagers yesterday, inaugurating a medical practice base specifically for these teenagers, as approved by the city’s health authority.
The experience camp aims to provide 75 outstanding high school students from Hong Kong, Macao, and the Chinese mainland with a unique opportunity to explore the medical field through practical experience.
Designed to promote exchanges and cooperation between medical talent in Guangdong Province, Hong Kong, and Macao, this initiative seeks to stimulate youngsters’ interest in medicine and enhance their understanding of national medical reforms and social development, according to HKU-SZH.
Previous sessions of the camp, held in the summers of 2019 and 2023, received high praise from students and parents, and a total of 145 middle school students from diverse backgrounds participated, the hospital said.
The third medical experience camp features three phases, with 75 middle school students attending, including 27 from the mainland, 46 from Hong Kong and Macao, and two from overseas.
The camp offers a comprehensive five-day experience in both Shenzhen and Hong Kong that allows students to explore various departments, such as the emergency department, outpatient department, operating room, and pharmacy, at HKU-SZH.
Participants will also have the chance to witness the teaching atmosphere and training methods of The University of Hong Kong’s Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine.
Zhu Zhengyu, a student from Jiaxing No. 1 Middle School in Zhejiang Province, stated that the camp will offer him a personal encounter with the career of a medical professional. He hopes to redouble his efforts in order to pursue his aspirations in the medical field.
