Zimbabwe’s president commends SZ-made autos

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa expressed keen interest in the innovative range of new energy vehicles (NEVs) during his visit to BYD Co.’s headquarters in Pingshan District, Shenzhen, on Friday. Mnangagwa, who led a delegation to Shenzhen from Thursday to Saturday, was on a mission to learn about the city’s advancements in scientific and technological innovation, with Shenzhen being the first stop on his China tour.

During the visit, Mnangagwa toured BYD’s showroom, where he received an in-depth overview of the company’s history, technological breakthroughs, and expansive global operations. He was notably impressed by BYD’s core NEV technologies and its diverse lineup, including the Yangwang and Fang Cheng Bao brands.

In a show of goodwill, BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu presented President Mnangagwa with a miniature model of the Yangwang U8, a luxury sport-utility vehicle that represents BYD’s commitment to innovation in the NEV sector.

This visit underscores the growing ties between Zimbabwe and Shenzhen, particularly in technology and innovation. Earlier this year, the Zimbabwean government released the Smart Zimbabwe 2030 Master Plan, which aims to build an inclusive digital society. Mnangagwa’s visit to Shenzhen highlights his interest in leveraging the city’s expertise in smart city development for Zimbabwe’s future growth.
