Two of Hong Kong’s major parks, Victoria Park and Tsing Yi Park, will launch spectacular lantern displays on Thursday night as part of the Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival, running until next Wednesday, in celebration of the traditional Chinese festival. The lanterns will be illuminated at 6:30 pm and remain lit throughout the week, offering residents and visitors a dazzling experience.
The lantern exhibitions will feature several stunning installations, including a 12-metre-high lantern shaped like a qipao at Victoria Park, and a 7.5-metre-tall display called the “Tree of Budding Creativity,” designed by students. The lanterns will be grouped around four key themes: clothing, food, accommodation, and transport, bringing a vibrant and cultural atmosphere to the festival.
Alongside the lantern displays, the carnival will include traditional Chinese costume shows, lantern riddles, a Mid-Autumn market, and a mascot catwalk show. Artistic creations such as phoenixes and peonies by local paper craft master Hui Ka-hung, as well as lanterns shaped like ancient Chinese architecture from Sichuan province, will also be exhibited.
The event is expected to draw large crowds to enjoy these traditional displays, marking a festive celebration of Mid-Autumn in Hong Kong. The displays will remain until the day after the Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese lunar calendar.
