China has tested a new type of warplane on the Liaoning, the first aircraft carrier of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy, sparking widespread speculation that the jet could be the J-35, a next-generation carrier-borne stealth fighter. According to state broadcaster CCTV, Zhang Naigang, a seasoned pilot, flew the new aircraft earlier this year.
Experts confirmed that the warplane is now operational on all three Chinese aircraft carriers—Liaoning, Shandong, and Fujian—enhancing their combat capabilities. Photos and media reports suggest the jet might be the J-35, a potential rival to the US F-35. The new aircraft is expected to operate alongside the J-15, providing a versatile and powerful air wing for China’s naval forces.
This development highlights China’s growing naval aviation capabilities as it continues to modernize its fleet and integrate advanced technologies like stealth fighters and electromagnetic catapults.
