Hong Kong’s men’s rugby team clinched their second consecutive Asia Rugby Sevens Series leg with a thrilling 24-19 victory over Japan in Hangzhou. The win came after a late try by captain James Christie in the final minute, following a yellow card that left Japan a man down.
Hong Kong had taken an early 12-0 lead, but Japan fought back, eventually taking a 19-17 advantage. However, Christie’s decisive second try sealed the win for Hong Kong. Over the course of the tournament, Hong Kong scored 163 points and conceded just 26, demonstrating their dominance.
In the women’s competition, Hong Kong fell short, losing to China and Thailand, but remain on track for Challenger Series qualification. Hong Kong’s men are now aiming for a third title in the final leg of the series in Bangkok.
