New Road to Boost Connectivity in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area

The Wanqingsha branch of the Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway will officially open next month, enhancing connectivity between Guangzhou’s Nansha District and the Shenzhong (Shenzhen-Zhongshan) Link, as announced by Nansha District officials.

This new branch will enable vehicles to travel from Nansha Port to Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport in under 20 minutes via the Shenzhong Link, and reach Zhongshan, the birthplace of revolutionary leader Sun Yat-sen, in under 15 minutes via the Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway, according to Liu Wei, Nansha District’s Party chief.

The project aims to support Nansha’s integration into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and boost its openness to international markets. Additionally, construction will soon begin on the Nanshan Comprehensive Hub, which will cover 120,000 square meters and open by 2028, positioning it as one of the GBA’s largest transportation hubs. The hub will serve 80 million people and connect over 800,000 businesses within an hour’s drive.

The 32.4-kilometer Nansha-Zhongshan Expressway, which connects Nansha, Zhuhai, Zhongshan, and Shenzhen, became operational in April. The Shenzhong Link, which crosses the Pearl River Estuary, opened in June, further promoting regional integration within the GBA.
