Hong Kong-Macao Visual Art Biennale 2024: A Dialogue Between Tradition and Modernity Kicks Off in Hangzhou

The 2024 Hong Kong-Macao Visual Art Biennale opened in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, under the theme of “integration and dialogue,” presenting a diverse artistic showcase that bridges tradition and modernity. This cultural event, featuring young artists from Hong Kong, Macao, and Zhejiang, offers audiences a chance to explore the dynamic interplay between Eastern and Western influences, local culture, and contemporary art.

Four sets of installations by young Hong Kong artists, embodying the city’s unique blend of East and West, were highlighted at the event. Tam Mei Yee, Deputy Director of Leisure and Cultural Services of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, emphasized the significance of this Biennale in fostering cultural exchanges. The event aligns with Hong Kong’s ambitions to become an East-meets-West hub for international cultural exchange, a goal outlined in China’s 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025).
