From -44.2℃ to 31.8℃! The Largest Temperature Difference in China on the Same Day Reaches 76℃

Recently, the strongest cold wave of this winter is affecting China. According to China’s official weather Weibo account, the frigid blast has already brought significant temperature drops throughout the country, resulting in a staggering 76°C difference between the highest and lowest recorded temperatures on December 16th!

Imagine this: in Tulihe, Inner Mongolia, the mercury plummeted to a biting -44.2°C, while simultaneously, Baoting in Hainan sweltered under a balmy 31.8°C – a remarkable 76°C swing within the same day on Chinese soil!

The cold wave’s icy grip is far from over. From December 16th to 18th, it will continue its southward march, even reaching the tropical paradise of Hainan, bringing a chill to approximately 80% of the nation.

To ensure public safety, the China Meteorological Administration issued a yellow low-temperature warning on December 16th. Brace yourselves, as temperatures in most regions will remain below average for the next week. Expect daily minimum temperatures in certain areas of northern Xinjiang, the eastern Northwest, Inner Mongolia, North China, Northeast China, Huang-Huai, Jiang-Huai, Jiang-Han, northern Jiangnan, and Guizhou to be more than 5°C lower than the historical average for the same period. In some pockets of the eastern Northwest, Inner Mongolia, Northeast China, North China, eastern Huang-Huai, and eastern Jiang-Huai, the mercury could even dip 7°C below the historical average, pushing the 0°C line southward from Guizhou to the northern reaches of Jiangnan.

Stay informed, stay warm, and take necessary precautions to protect yourself from the harsh winter weather. Remember, preparedness is key!
