Departure figures mirrored the arrival boom, with a 42% year-on-year jump to 7.66 million passengers eager to explore other destinations. This surge in traveler movement paints a vibrant picture of a city rediscovering its pre-pandemic vibrancy.
Commercial transportation modes, including railways, aviation, waterways, and roads, witnessed the most dramatic increase. Combined, they facilitated 2.65 million departures and 3.41 million arrivals, representing a staggering 73.6% and 53.9% increase respectively. This highlights the diverse travel preferences of visitors, utilizing various options to reach Shenzhen and its surrounding areas.
Closer within the city, the Shenzhen Metro system experienced a surge in ridership, recording a staggering 39.6% year-on-year increase with 32.13 million passenger trips. Ground-based public transportation services, such as buses, taxis, and app-based ride-hailing platforms, also saw a healthy 17.6% increase in passenger trips, reaching 13.02 million.
